Over 3000 years in history and local culture,

The youngest municipality of China,

The largest inland city of rivers and mountains on the planet,

The city of miracles,

This is new Chongqing,

The economic center of the upper Yangtze,

Prepared to embrace the rest of the world,

This is Chongqing, one of the four Chinese cities identified on the world map at the UN General Assembly Hall. Chongqing is also a famous historical and cultural city in China, has a history of more than 3,000 years and a glorious revolutionary tradition. The local culture was originated in the area centered at Chongqing, the place of the ancient Ba. Chongqing is famous for the towering mountains and roaring rivers, which have witnessed the local civilization of over 3000 years.

Chongqing has a significant history and culture and serves as the economic centre of the upstream Yangtze basin. It is a major manufacturing centre and transportation hub; a July 2012 report by the Economist Intelligence Unit described it as one of China's "13 emerging megacities".

As the provisional Capital of China for almost ten years (1937 to 1945), the city was also known as one of the three headquarters of the Allies during World War II, as well as being a strategic center of many other wars throughout China's history. Chongqing has many historic war-time buildings or sites, some of which have since been destroyed. These sites include the People's Liberation Monument, located in the center of Chongqing city.

The Three Gorges Dam is a hydroelectric dam that spans the Yangtze River by the town of Sandouping, is the world's largest power station in terms of installed capacity (22,500 MW). In 2014 the dam generated 98.8 TWh of electricity, setting a new world record by 0.17 TWh previously held by the Itaipú Dam on the Brazil/Paraguay border in 2013 of 98.63. The Dujiangyan Dam

The Dujiangyan Dam, 45km north of Chengdu, is a technological wonder of the country. More than 2000 years ago, Li Bing(250-200BC), a local governor of the Shu State, designed this water control and irrigation dam and thousands of local people were engaged in the project. This system is a large hydraulic water project which consists of three main parts: The Fish Mouth Water-Dividing Dam, the Flying Sand Fence, and the Bottle-Neck Channel. The dam diverts the Mingjiang River and channels into irrigation canals. An expansion has been undertaken since 1949 and at present the system does a good job in irrigating farming land across 33counties of the western part of Sichuan Province.
